Environmental management in Helity
Origin and Development
Quality and innovation in the service are essential values that HÉLITY has contributed to the air sector since its creation in Spain in 2016.
As a result of HÉLITY's involvement with quality and the environment, in May 2017, prior to the start of operations and obtaining the air operator certificate (AOC), the process of implementing an Environmental Management System (SGMA) began to carry out the environmental regulation of the maintenance activities of the helicopters and ground operations, through an exhaustive planning and contribution of resources by the airline. During 2017 the system has been implemented based on the UNE-EN ISO 14001 standard.
Policy statement once the system is implemented
All this had its origin in the commitment acquired by HÉLITY, as a commercial passenger air transport company with helicopter, with the important task of minimizing the environmental impact of its activity. The company's management, after having consolidated the development of this system, providing it with the necessary resources, has officially shaped its link with the preservation of the environment in an environmental policy appropriate to its characteristics and those of its activity.
HÉLITY has made available to those responsible for the project all those resources necessary to achieve the objective set and, in the final phase, made the declaration of the environmental policy. In this way, it achieved from the beginning a greater involvement of all the personnel involved in the project.
ISO 14001 environmental certification
The system is constituted by the whole structure of the organization, responsibilities, procedures, processes and resources (material and human), which HÉLITY has to develop, implement, and keep up to date the environmental policy, which reflects the commitment established by the management of the company. This system is a continuous improvement tool that allows the company to improve the processes and results of environmental performance in each of the areas.
Once the SGMA was implemented, it underwent a rigorous system of internal and external audits in order to determine whether it complied with the plans initially established. After the detection of the improvement points, the necessary adjustments were made before carrying out the certification of the same by a BUREAU VERITAS certification company.
Thus, in October 2017, the UNE-EN ISO 14001 Environmental Certification is achieved.
Since then HÉLITY will annually review its Environmental Management System in order to pass the monitoring and renewal audits of the environmental certification that will be carried out every year.
Paper Project
Our Company has always opted since its inception to develop its procedures so that they have the least paper consumption. Proof of this is our ticket sales system and passenger control for boarding on our flights. The electronic tickets arrive to our passengers by email because of the warning that their printing is not necessary since they only have to show the documentation that proves their identity to our ground staff to be able to check in and board our aircraft.
HÉLITY has started the Paper Project, developed to improve the management of paper in the company and whose main objective is the application of the 3R principle (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) and increase environmental awareness throughout the company .
This project arises as a result of the following starting points:
- Consistency with the declaration of environmental policy and integration of paper management in the Environmental Management System (SGMA).
- Analysis of the most significant environmental aspect in offices (paper).
- Compliance with environmental regulations (3R law).
